Other hobbies of mine are video editing, Photoshop, special effects and story telling which allows me the chance to combine these hobbies with my passion of piano all in one video. At times, I may completely rework the song since I am often taking a band, song or symphony and reworking it for a single piano solo.
Videos are listed newest to oldest, with the older videos on my older keyboard being placeholders. A reminder to myself to redo the song now that I am better equipped and as I refine my abilities.
I love music from the 80's. Including the 1680s!
Some songs come quicker than others. This piece took me a month with only 2 to 3 nights of practice a week. Compare that to the above (A Thousand Years) which took me nearly a thousand years to complete. While some songs may be a complete rework, others like this I try to keep as true to the genuine masterpiece it was, which makes my job - not a job.
A tribute to my beautiful niece Samantha.
Living 1500+ miles away from family is difficult when they're pulled from this rock. Unable to go to the services was more difficult but paying ones respects is always a private matter anyway and a formal "Goodbye" in the form of attendance at a funeral is more for the family than any personal sentiments. In that, we each choose whatever way we wish. This was my choice. My only regret was in having to keep this short. I hadn't touched the piano in a few weeks because I tore a ligament in my elbow of my right arm. Any playing was extremely painful. Until I thought of her. I wish you could have experienced what I did in having my pain completely stopped to allow me to get this done because if you don't already believe, you certainly would.
Perfectly titled due to the amount of time this took to record, haha. No other piece taught me more patience than this one. I learned a lot about home recording and the limitations of my cameras as well as the importance of lighting. With 5 cameras to set for each take as well as the audio recording software on my computer, one or two minutes in I would get a camera error beep. I would then have to delete each video from each camera, climb up to my overhead camera (my phone) and reset it, then delete the audio from the computer and then once again start them all and sit for another attempt while trying not to allow the growing frustration effect the needed emotion in the music while stressing about the quickly draining batteries of each camera, haha. To get this successful seven minute video, it took trying every night for two months. It was worth the effort - never give up!
My first Yanni cover. Dedicated to my step father (Chuck) and best friend (Rick). Rick and I grew up to hard Rock. After he laughed at me (often) for liking Yanni for years, I took him to a Yanni performance. Not only did he change his opinion, but he named his next cat - Yanni. He had asked that I learn this song and soon after his father (Chuck) was diagnosed as terminal. This song was very hard for me to do by ear and the exact night that I FINALLY finished it, Chuck passed on. This video was meant to help my brother cope with his loss and as much as my faith ensures me life goes on, others may need reminding. When this chapter is complete, life does in fact go on. Don't fear it.
Dedicated to Jen. Jen wasn't family in the legal form of the word, but more than family in my love for her and her fam. I'm forever a better Dan because I knew her. We all innocently get caught up in our own lives and can lose others off of our daily radar. At the time I beat myself up hard for not knowing she was dying of cancer and when she passed, my heart stopped, broke and then apologized to her with this tribute.
